ACADEMIC AWARDS CRITERIA


TERM RECOGNITION

At the end of each term students are placed on the Principal’s List, Honour Roll and/or Work Ethic List.  

Students must carry a full timetable for each term to qualify for such recognition, with the exception of Grade 12 students who are entitled to one spare per term.  

GPA is calculated on all courses, and students are excluded if they have an “N” work habit.

YEAR END AWARDS

a)      Work Ethic List of Distinction – A letter of recommendation is awarded to a student who has made the Work Ethict List of Distinction in all four terms.

b)      Honour Roll – A certificate is presented to a student who has achieved Honour Roll or a combination of Principal's Honour Roll and Honour Roll in each of the four terms (excluding final exams).

c)      Principal’s Honour Roll – A cord is presented to a student who has achieved Principal's Honour Roll in each of the four terms (excluding final exams) at Mt. Boucherie Secondary.

d)      4.0 Award of Excellence – This medallion is awarded to a student who has achieved a GPA of 4.0 in four terms (excluding final exams) at Mt. Boucherie Secondary.

e)      Department Awards – Junior and Senior students are selected by each department:  English, Business Education, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Languages, Home Economics, Physical Education, Career Programs, Human Services, Info Tech and Technology Education.  Criteria are determined by each department with some departments having an award for each grade or for various areas within the department.  Students receive an engraved medallion to acknowledge their accomplishment.  All names are recorded on the appropriate permanent plaque in the display cabinet.

f)      Royal Commonwealth Society – Certificates in recognition of essays written for the annual Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition.

g)      Kelowna and District Arts Council – Certificates in recognition of achievements in Art, Music, and Drama.

h)      Service – Certificates of recognition of ten or more hours of voluntary service in any area (except athletics, which has its own recognition).  

i)      Boucherie Bear - is given to a student in Grade 11 who have the highest number of unpaid and unrewarded service hours in the year.

j)      Lois Flavelle Award - honours students in Grade 10 at Mt. Boucherie for outstanding volunteer service.

k)      Passport to Education Program
        Recognizes student achievement in Grade 10 to 12 through cash awards towards post-secondary study:
        Grade 10        $250
        Grade 11        $250
        Grade 12        $500

Eligibility

Must be in fulltime attendance at school

Must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant

Based on top 5 provincially authorized and/or board authorized courses per year

Total awards money limited to approximately 18% of total enrolment in each grade

Redeemable at post-secondary institutions

GRADE 12 AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

a)      Governor General’s Bronze Medal – Highest GPA in all grade 11 and 12 courses including Provincial Exams.

b)      Gold Cords – Principal's Honour Roll in 10 out of 12 terms for grades 10 to 12.  These cords are awarded at our Commencement Ceremony.

c)      All-Round Achievement – Teacher nominations, must have achievements in 3 out of 4 categories (athletic, fine arts, academic, service (school and/or community).  Awards Committee decision.

d)      Grade 12 Citizenship – Service on behalf of the Grad class.  Grad sponsor with staff input.
