Counselling Department
Welcome to the Counselling Department
We have a number of people available to assist students and parents with many aspects of school life. Generally the services cover three major areas: personal counselling, educational planning and career exploration. As well as three high school counsellors we have community personnel available to meet with referred students on a part-time basis. There is a Drug and Alcohol counsellor who works for ARC programs, a social worker from the Ministry of Child and Youth Mental Health, and a Youth Services worker from 'Reconnect', the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club. In addition to the professional counsellors available, we have Peer Counsellors available to provide support to students with their particular focus being peer conflict mediation.
Our school counsellors provide support relating to personal and family issues, and help to address concerns that may interfere with a student’s school progress. They assist students with educational planning and exploring areas of interest, researching post-secondary requirements and career opportunities. Counsellors assist with course selection and planning to achieve graduation requirements, as well as tracking student academic progress and attendance. Counsellors play a key role with helping to identify and support students in a variety of ways, including making referrals to support programs within our school as well as inter-community referrals to qualified specialists who may offer additional assistance.
Students work with counsellors according their surname:
Students and parents may speak with or see one of the above counselors by calling or making an appointment with Mrs. Gonzales at 250-712-7040, ext. 5237. |
