Job Shadows
All students may gain valuable career exploration by spending one day in a career area of their choosing.  We recommend every grade 10 student take advantage of this opportunity.  This allows students to explore their future and take a hands-on look at whether that is a career path they want to follow.  These hours can be used towards the 30 hours of work/volunteer experience for the MAP, as well as the 100 hours for Work Experience 12 (a 4 credit course).

Career Placement
Grade 11 and 12 students can go the next step......a Career Placement.  This differs from a Job Shadow, as it is longer (typically 2 - 5 days) and is more on-hands than just shadowing.  Students may take on small projects for their place of business.  These hours can be used towards the 30 hours of work/volunteer experience for the MAP, as well as the 100 hours for Work Experience 12 (a 4 credit course).  If students are interested in doing a Career Placement please see a Career Co-ordinator in the Career Centre.

WORK EXPERIENCE - 4 CREDIT COURSES

Have you got a job lined up, or did you start a job recently? There is an opportunity where you may be able to earn credits through employment.

Work Experience  12A/B -
Grade 11 and 12 students can earn 4 credits for 100 hours of work experience.  Students can use either their part-time employment, a school organized placement, or a combination.  At the completion of the hours students must write a report on the employability skills learned from this work experience. Sign up is required, usually in September or May (for summer hours). Please see a Career Coordinator for more information.

Those students that have signed up for September 2011 Work Experience credits, your completed paperwork package is now due May 15th, or earlier if you complete the required 100 hours of work.
