MBSS Specialty Programs
School-based Ace-It Programs
Students can earn high school credit and post-secondary credit at the same time. These programs are taught at specific schools throughout the school district. Students need to be attending or transfer to that school inorder to take this program, as most of the classes are during the regular days timetable.
Emergency Medical Responder (RSS)…lead to career as a paramedic or firefighter
Automotive Service Technician (KSS)…students receive Level 1 Technical Training
Culinary Arts (MBSS)…students receive Level 1 Technical Training
Hairdressing Academy (MBSS)
Residential Construction (RSS)…students receive Level 1 Technical Training and will build a house from start to finish

Culinary Arts
- students will spend time in each of our four training kitchens and will cover all the basic skills required including: hygiene, safety and nutrition, hot and cold work, butchery and bakery. The program places emphasis on practical skills and graduates are in high demand both locally and in major centers.
-It includes 4 Culinary courses, which students take in one semester. Program has two intakes, one in September and again in February. There are still spaces available for February 2012.
-The course is taught by Chef Armstrong, an Okanagan College instructor.
-The cost is $350 to enter the culinary program. This fee will provide students with course guides and workbooks, uniforms and chef hats.
-This course is designed to best suit grade 11 students, however, it can also also be taken in grade 12.
-Students who pass this course with a minimum of 70% and continue to earn 400 hours of work experience in a kitchen will satisfy the requirement for Level 1 Professional Chef.
-Admission requirements: Minimum grade 10 completion or equivalent (ABE Intermediate level, satisfactory standing in basic mathematics and reading test, completion of Food Save.
-The Culinary program at Mount Boucherie provides a unique opportunity for young adults to build a meaningful career while in high school and develop the skills and attitudes for a positive life.

Fire Academy
- Students will work with with Westside Fire Department to start their professional Firefighter Certification (College of the Rockies program).
- This is a 16 credit program including Firefighter 12, Weights and Fitness 12, Work Experience 12, and Work Experience 12B.
- Students will also get their S130 and S190 certificates (Aid, CPR, WHIMIS.)

Hairdressing Academy
Training (ACE IT) program designed for grade 11 and 12 students
- Program is composed of 4 theory courses, 4 applied skills hairdressing courses and 120 mandatory hours of salon work experience hours – a total of 1000 hairdressing industry training hours!
- Cosmetology Industry Association of British Columbia (CIABC) approved, giving you the opportunity to challenge the CIABC Hairdressing licensing exam

Hockey Skills Academy
MBSS Girl's Soccer Academy - see Mr. Zuyderduyn if you are interested!
- any female students entering grades 10, 11, or 12
- 8-credit academy takes place over two years, with each half of the program (4 credits) being offered in the fall semester of each respective year
- Aside from improving soccer skills, this academy will help students improve their communication and leadership skills
- Long-term goal is to become coaches of local teams through the Westside Youth Soccer Association and beyond
- Also receive their first aid and CPR training, and they’ll work towards achieving their certification for officiating youth soccer through the
